What Certalot Calving is
Certalot Calving is a calving book for cow-calf producers, for iPhone with a web portal. It is made by Mocha's MindLab Inc. of Vancouver, British Columbia. This policy covers the app and the portal. Certalot Food, our food compliance product, has its own policy.
Your book stays on your phone
Calving records, cows, tags, tag pools, groups, vaccinations, manifests and the ranch details you type in are stored in the app on your iPhone. You do not need an account to use the app, and without one none of it leaves the phone.
Photos you attach to a record stay on the phone. They are not uploaded, even when you sign in to a ranch account.
Your iPhone may include the app's data in your own iCloud or computer backups, depending on your device settings. Those backups are between you and Apple.
The ranch account (optional)
If you create a ranch account, we store your email address, an account ID, your ranch name, province and premises ID, and a copy of your book so it can sync between your phone and the web portal. You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email, or with Sign in with Apple. If you choose Apple's Hide My Email, we only ever see the relay address.
Ranch account data is stored in Canada (Montréal) on Supabase. Each ranch's rows are locked to that ranch at the database, so one ranch cannot read another's book. The web portal is hosted by Vercel.
Book-photo import
If you photograph a page of a paper calving book to import it, the photo is sent to our import service and on to Anthropic (Claude) to read the handwriting. This happens in the United States. The photo and the text read from it are returned to your phone and are not stored by us. Anthropic does not use this content to train its models.
Nothing read from a photo is saved until you check it and confirm each row. The AI never writes to your book on its own.
Purchases
The Full Book and, when offered, the Farm to Fork subscription are bought through Apple. Apple handles payment; we never see your card. RevenueCat receives the purchase record and an ID for your ranch or install so the app knows what you own and can restore it on a new phone.
What we do not do
The app has no advertising, no ad tracking and no analytics or crash-reporting SDK. We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers. The web portal sets only the cookies needed to keep you signed in.
Who we share with
Service providers only, as processors: Supabase (ranch account and sync, Canada), Vercel (web portal and import service hosting), Anthropic (reading book photos, United States), RevenueCat (purchase records, United States) and Apple (payment and Sign in with Apple). We share with no one else unless the law requires it.
Deleting your data
Delete your ranch account in the app: More, then Ranch account, then Delete account. That removes your sign-in and the online copy of your book straight away. Rows in a ranch that someone else also belongs to stay with them. The book on your phone stays until you delete the app, which removes it from the phone.
You can also email us to delete your account. Your purchases belong to your Apple ID, so deleting the account does not cancel a subscription; cancel one in your iPhone's Settings under your name, then Subscriptions.
Your rights
We operate under PIPEDA, British Columbia's PIPA and Québec's Law 25. You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email us and we will respond within 30 days.
Children
Certalot Calving is a business tool for producers and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we change what the app collects, we will update this page before the app changes and show the new date at the top. Material changes are also announced in the app.
